For thick hair sometimes a regular elastic wont work.
It may not wrap around enough times to create a tight pony. With a bungee elastic, it allows you to custom fit the pony tail. You hook one end into the hair and wrap the elastic around the pony until it is tight. Then you can hook the two ends together or push the hook into the hair where it will stay firmly in place until you want to remove it.
